IFF Is pleased to announce Mucio Furtado has been appointed to be part of this year’s judging team at the 2022 World Championship Cheese Contest. Múcio Furtado, Ph.D., is the senior principal application specialist supporting IFF’s Cultures & Enzymes business, based in São Paulo. He joins 50 other skilled judges from around the world and will be the only technical judge representing Brazil in this internationally renowned contest held in Wisconsin, U.S.

Mucio is the go-to application specialist for top cheese producers in Latin America. He joined Danisco more than 20 years ago and is now a key member instrumental in driving the IFF’s cultures portfolio in the region. He has more than 50 years of experience in cheese production and has published 13 books on cheeses. He works very closely with customers providing technical support, helping to solve problems and address challenges in the entire cheese-making process.

“I am honored to not only represent IFF at this year’s World Championship Cheese Contest but also Brazil and the broader Latin America region,” said Furtado. “I am excited to join the other highly skilled judges and experienced cheesemakers from around the world, to celebrate the science and creativity behind cheeses”. 

The World Championship Cheese Contest is the world’s premier technical cheese, butter, and yogurt competition. Held biennially, this year’s competition will take place from March 1-3. Entrants are judged on the flavor, body and texture, salt, color, finish, packaging, and other appropriate attributes of their cheese products. Winners will be announced on Thursday, March 3 at 2 p.m. CT. This year’s event will be closed to the public, but spectators can follow along on the contest’s Facebook page for live updates.
