SASKO’s Bethlehem Mill is celebrating 30 years in service this year. Bethlehem Mill has over the years become a beacon of light within the area – ensuring that the community enjoys locally made, superior quality goods every day, coupled with the long-standing economic contribution of the site.
Bethlehem Mill currently employs 96 permanent employees, 11 of which have been with the mill since its inception. Employees Aaron Nhlapo, Andries Mavuso, Pat Motaung, Jurgens Nel, Elias Theletsane, Pitso Molilo, Zacharia Maloka, Edward Miya, Amos Mhlambi, Isaac Mokoena and Mankhese Makhubo were recently honoured for their dedication and recognized for 30 years in service.
“This is an incredible milestone for any company. I would like to thank everyone who has been part of our journey – our clients, partners and staff – past and present. All of you have been central to making our first 30 years so extraordinary”, says Plant Manager, Zane Opperman.
The mill was commissioned in 1991 as growing demand resulted in the need for additional milling capacity within the SASKO Group. Bethlehem was chosen due to the central location in terms of SASKO’s distribution network, which covers all nine provinces in South Africa; and due to the quality of the wheat in-and-around the Free State.
Felix Lombard, Vice President of the Essential Foods unit of PepsiCo Sub-Saharan Africa added his voice to the celebration, “PepsiCo SSA is really proud to be associated with the heritage created by SASKO over so many years in the town of Bethlehem”.
“SASKO is grateful for the wonderful Bethlehem area that we call home and we are pleased to continue contributing to this community. As we celebrate this milestone, we wish to thank everyone that has helped us to get to 30 years”, concludes Opperman. With SASKO in your basket, life really does taste great!
