Here’s your June Edition of FBR

What a month it has been. We have some great food safety solutions in this edition, along with food fraud and pesticides in food. We also take a very brief look at the seafood industry, as well as the consumer trends towards functional food that focuses on health. Our packaging section is also jammed full with sustainability solutions for the food industry – lots of ideas to process for your products, to meet the customer’s ever growing need to be environmentally responsible.

 

But top of mind, is the raging debate that has just emerged with the plant-based sector in the line of fire, following the restrictions enforced by DALRRD regarding the use of naming conventions on meat analogue packaging. The sector is growing fast, and plays a strong economic role in South Africa as it recovers from the pandemic – so this could have a huge impact if it goes ahead. This will be one to watch.
