September heralds the start of spring for South Africa, and it hosts Heritage Day, which has become a celebration of the diversity we hold in this beautiful country. Our food brands also carry that heritage, and we look at a few of these in this month’s edition.

From Rainbow Chicken, which is celebrating 60 years of feeding the nation, to alcoholic beverage makers that are embracing some of our iconic South  African flavours!

Food loss and waste is another key topic of focus this month, with the celebration of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September. Discover some of the ways that the industry is addressing this issue – from agriculture to processors, to the hospitality sector, there are some innovative solutions in play. We also look at the ways in which food packaging can reduce food loss and waste.

In our dedicated packaging section, we look at optical sorters, blister and clamshell packaging, chemicals in food processing and packaging, and the ways that inspection systems protect consumer health while also ensuring product quality.

With so much going on in the world of rugby this month, we hope you carve out some time to read the great features we have put together for you this month.

Here’s wishing our Bokke much success in defending their title and becoming the country with the most World Cup Rugby wins! Let’s go Bokke!
