Can you believe that we are through the half-way mark for 2023? This year has certainly thrown the industry some curve balls, but the team at Food & Beverage Reporter firmly believe that challenges offer us the opportunities we need to innovate, and to develop a more resilient industry.
This ability to pivot works to our advantage when it comes to the development of solutions to tackle issues around food safety with new ingredients, technology and packaging solutions.
But first, we would like to congratulate Heat and Control on the opening of their new office building in Cape Town. We were there to celebrate with Jeff and his team and gained more insights into the aims of the business to ‘think global, act local’, particularly when it comes to servicing clients not only in South Africa, but also on the African continent.
We also bring you some of the biggest trends and take outs from Vitafoods – particularly around future new product developments such as sports and performance nutrition, how to develop new products for an ageing population and the renewed emphasis on metabolic health.
The processed meat sector has been served multiple blows from the imposition of stricter sodium regulations, a reduction in meat content under the APS Act as well as load shedding. Dr. Stefan Hayward and Dr. Francois Mellett formed part of a team of scientists from Synercore’s meat division working in collaboration with Flavorpack to develop a range of product solutions for the meat processing industry to offset these challenges.
